Kain Songket Sarawak

Kain Songket is the customary outfit for the Malay community. In Sarawak, this beautiful gold-patterned woven piece of art is a fusion of different Malaysian styles incorporating design elements in a Sarawak perspective. As a result, Kain Songket Sarawak differentiates itself from Songkets of other origins in a variety of ways besides its distinctive weaving technique adopted resulting in that unique Sarawak experience.

Indeed as late as the nineteen-sixties, it was common to see Sarawak Malay women, young and old, dressed in such a Kain Songket, complete with the Keringkam (gold-embroidered headscarf) at Malay weddings and other important and auspicious ceremonies.
