The Bidayuh Bamboo baskets

Besides the basket series, the Bidayuhs of Sarawak has also developed quite an impressive series of handicrafts from bamboo. In fact you will be amazed at how bamboo is widely treasured and used in their everyday life including as materials for building the entire longhouse.

An iconic Bidayuh handicraft developed from bamboo would be the Bidayuh Bamboo carving which was initially created to be used as dart-containers for the blow pipe in the olden days. Later it was developed into containers for storing important documents.

As times go by, these unique way of carving was creatively adopted in and around the interior of longhouses giving rise to that standard interior décor outlook for the Bidayuh Longhouses.
